Ensembles

Fivay has multiple music courses designed to grow complete musicians.  It is the goal of the Fivay High School Music Program, to create an environment through music and the arts that will foster, challenge, motivate, develop and demand our students to become responsible and mature young adults. This program is dedicated to achieving excellence in our musical and educational endeavors.

Soaring Falcons Marching Band

Each member of the concert program is a member of the marching band in the fall.  The Marching Band performs at football games, competitions, parades and evaluations with most of the performances being from August through December.  The Soaring Falcons is a successful and growing program.

Wind Ensemble and Concert Band

We have 2 Concert Bands at Fivay HS. The more advanced band being the Wind Ensemble and the beginner-intermediate band being the Concert Band. The Concert Band is open to all students, while the Wind Ensemble requires an audition. Both bands perform a Fall and Spring Concert. These classes focus on playing fundamentals, music theory, music history, and live performance. The students also have Solo & Ensemble opportunities as well.

Jazz Band

The Jazz Band is recommended for students who have already started to play an instrument and have an interest in learning to play Jazz. This ensemble’s instrumentation is that of a standard big band. Students are selected to this ensemble based on ability, and interest in jazz.

Drumline & Percussion Ensembles

There are many different Percussion groups and opportunities at Fivay. The Drumline is the heartbeat of the Soaring Falcons Marching Band. The Indoor Percussion Ensemble is a competitive group made up from kids throughout the music program and runs from Nov-April.  The Concert Percussion Ensembles perform at all the concerts. They are designed to refine percussion skills, while teaching reading, technique and musicianship.

Color Guard & Winter Guard

The Color Guard is a part of the marching band in the fall, and the Winter Guard in the spring.  Participants in the guard program learn how to spin flags, rifles, sabres, and synchronize dance movement as a group. Vicki Knapp-McGinnis is the FHS guard instructor.  Interested students need to sign up for the Eurhythmics class.

Concert Choir

The Concert Choir is open to all students. The Concert Choir performs at the Winter Concert, Spring Concert. These singers are eligible to audition for the All-County Chorus and All-State Chorus as well. We have a vocal coach that comes in to assist our choir students.
