Wrestling – Team moves to 24-2 with Defeat of River Ridge HS

NEW PORT RICHEY– The Falcon Wrestling Team soundly defeated River Ridge High School on Wednesday evening 61-18 to take their season record to 24-2.

The meet started out at 182 pounds where Sophomore Nicco Lightfoot was able to pin Alex Bianchi (RRHS) in the second period to take his season record to 29-1.  The Falcons received forfeit victories at 195 and 220 pounds and Senior Mike Hahn's (220) record remains unblemished at 30-0.

Next up for the Falcons was 285 pounds and Junior Kelly Meus.  Kelly was also able to record a pin in the second period over Curtis Watts to take the Falcons Team Lead to 24-0.

The meet then moved to 106 pounds where Sophomore Cole Manion was able to pin Dakota Arends (RRHS) who was previously unbeaten on the season.  Troy Reed also recored a pin for Fivay at 113 pounds over Michael Germe to move the score to 36-0.

At 120 pounds, River Ridge was able to get on the scoreboard when Matthew Monti was able to record a pin on Falcon Robert Jordan.  Robert was wrestling for Falcon Sean Speer, who has been out with an illness.  River Ridge also won the next bout at 126 pounds when Kyle Arends (RRHS) was able to pin Falcon Nicholas Payne.  Nicholas was filling in for Jessie Barker who has moved to the 132 pound weight class for this meet.  Team score 36-12 Falcons.

Senior Jessie Barker was able to get the Falcons back on track with a hard fought decision (3-1) over Thomas Burke (RRHS) to earn the Falcons 3 more team points.  Then Sophomore Andrew Scherer recorded another 6 points by pinning Michael Cummings at 138 pounds; Team Score Falcons 45-12.

Max Reynolds of River Ridge earned their final win of the night with a pin of Sophomore (1st year wrestler) Marcus Paskalakis, to take the score to 45-18 in the Falcons favor.

At 152 pounds, Freshman Edwin Barreiro was moved up from the Falcon JV squad and earned another 6 Team Points by pinning Patrick Buford (RRHS) in the second period.  Junior Colin Han (160) earned a pin in 42 seconds over Jonathan Park to move the team score to 57-18.

The match ended with Senior Dominick Grilli taking a major decision (11-3) over Jacob West of River Ridge.

Final Match Score 61-18.

The Falcons are now done with their Regular Season Schedule and finished with a team record of 24-2 and captured 3 Dual Meet Tournament Championships (Solomon Duals, Falcon Slam and Gulf Holiday Duals).

The Varsity will next take the mat when they Host the Sunshine Athletic Conference Meet on Saturday January 28th.
