We have decided to give you the opportunity to become a member of this year’s Winterguard! Our Winterguard is essentially the Guard element from Marching Band, without the Marching Band. Last year, our Winterguard earned Superior ratings at the FBA District Solo and Ensemble Festival, and earned Excellent ratings at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festival. These ratings place them among the best Guard programs in all of Florida!
During this summer’s Student Leadership camp, our Leadership team was tasked with creating a set of goals for our band. Here is what they came up with:

Those students who were not selected, will be given the opportunity to re-tryout during our Guard and Band Camps, which will be held this summer (early August).
Yesterday, we held a meeting to determine possible halftime show ideas for the 2011-2012 marching season. Students who participated, were tasked with creating a list of 5 possible show ideas. Their list of shows were….

Additionally, I added Westerns as a sixth show idea.
In the next few days, we will make a decision as to what our 2011-2012 halftime show will be. Students who choose to audition for Drum Major, will be expected to try-out using our show music (which will be provided). Dates for both Drum Major and Guard try-outs will be announced in the near future.
Congratulations to all of our students who participated at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festival this past weekend. Our students did remarkably well, and have a lot to be proud of. Our results were as follows:

Receiving Superior and Excellent ratings at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festivals is a great achievement for any high school band program.
On Saturday, March 26, 2011 our students will be performing at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festival. This year’s festival is taking place at Freedom High School in Orlando, FL. Only students who earned a Superior rating at District Solo and Ensemble are permitted to perform. Our times for Saturday are as follows:
- 5:30 a.m. – Band Hall Opens
- 6:00 a.m. – Bus departs for Freedom High School
- 8:00 a.m. – Arrive at Freedom High School
- 9:00 a.m. – Winterguard performance
- 11:48 a.m. – Chris Cavaliere (Snare Drum Solo)
- Possible lunch break
- 3:45 p.m. – Synthia Martir (Dance Solo)
- 4:00 p.m. – Depart for Fivay High School
- 6:00 p.m. – Arrive at Fivay High School
As you can tell, it’s a long day for us. Please, bring some money for snacks/lunch, while at the festival.
On Monday, March 7, 2011, we will be taking some students to Bayonet Point Middle School to perform for their school. We will be taking the Jazz Ensemble, Drumline and Winterguard. Students will be missing their a portion of their 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th period classes. We will be doing 4-5 performances, during their different lunch periods. They will be excused from their classes, and will be allowed to make up their work.
The Fivay High School Winterguard performed “Glee” at the FBA District Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at J.W. Mitchell High School. This group has qualified and will be performing at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festival in Orlando, FL!
