During this summer’s Student Leadership camp, our Leadership team was tasked with creating a set of goals for our band. Here is what they came up with:

Be Prepared:

Know your music
Be on time
Dress appropriately
Know your fundamentals

Be Responsible:

Be on time
Have your music
No food/drink in the band hall
Complete your Trip Survey’s
Knowing when it’s time to be serious vs. the time to have fun

Leadership:

Be positive
Keep the drama out of the band
Respect your peers
Dedicate yourself
Become a member of Tri-M

Musicianship:

Know your fundamentals
Know your scales
Listen effectively
Balance
Improve every performance

Performances:

Try-out for All-County
Participate in H.O.T. Day
Participate in Solo & Ensemble
Participate in our Jazz Ensemble
Participate in various Honor Bands (USF Festival of Winds, FSU Tri-State, etc…)

If you have any suggestions for our Student Leadership, talk to them. Remember, they represent you when it comes to our band.

Congratulations to all of our students who participated at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festival this past weekend. Our students did remarkably well, and have a lot to be proud of. Our results were as follows:

Alexis Carro – Superior

Christopher Cavaliere – Excellent

Synthia Martir – Excellent

FHS Winterguard – Excellent

Receiving Superior and Excellent ratings at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festivals is a great achievement for any high school band program.

FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festival

On Saturday, March 26, 2011 our students will be performing at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festival. This year’s festival is taking place at Freedom High School in Orlando, FL. Only students who earned a Superior rating at District Solo and Ensemble are permitted to perform. Our times for Saturday are as follows:

5:30 a.m. – Band Hall Opens
6:00 a.m. – Bus departs for Freedom High School
8:00 a.m. – Arrive at Freedom High School
9:00 a.m. – Winterguard performance
11:48 a.m. – Chris Cavaliere (Snare Drum Solo)
Possible lunch break
3:45 p.m. – Synthia Martir (Dance Solo)
4:00 p.m. – Depart for Fivay High School
6:00 p.m. – Arrive at Fivay High School

As you can tell, it’s a long day for us. Please, bring some money for snacks/lunch, while at the festival.

Winterguard Video

The Fivay High School Winterguard performed “Glee” at the FBA District Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at J.W. Mitchell High School. This group has qualified and will be performing at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble Festival in Orlando, FL!

FBA Jazz Photos

Here are pictures from the 2010-2011 FBA Jazz Festival, held at the Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel High School.

Our band did a great job, and received Excellent ratings. Recordings of our performance can be found here.

The Fivay High School Jazz Ensemble’s next performances, will take place at Bayonet Point Middle School, the Lakeside Jazz Festival (in Daytona Beach, FL) and our Spring Concert.
